The Ex-Army Pikin Association in Taraba State has embarked on a 5.5-kilometer road walk from the Area Command Junction to the TY Danjuma Government House in Jalingo.
The event is part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Speaking at the Government House, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Godfrey Tafida, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of families of fallen heroes and veterans.
He urged the association to continue honoring the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s heroes for peace and unity.
In his address, the Chairman of the Ex-Army Pikin Association, Hero Bitrus, emphasized the importance of remembering fallen heroes.
He praised Governor Kefas for his developmental strides, including free education and infrastructure improvement, and appealed for the provision of a befitting office for the Nigeria Legion in Taraba State.
A highlight of the event was a novelty football match between members of the association and soldiers from the 6th Brigade, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Other planned activities include a medical outreach at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo on January 15, 2025, at 8:00 AM.
The celebration will culminate with an award ceremony on the same day at the Patience Event Center, Jalingo, starting at 5:00 PM. Awards will be presented to prominent individuals, including Governor Agbu Kefas, Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, and other dignitaries, for their contributions to humanity and the state.
