The Kano State Government has donated ₦20 million to support the families of Nigerian fallen heroes. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this during the launch of the 2025 Emblem Appeal Fund at the Government House, Kano.
Governor Yusuf personally contributed ₦2 million, while the 44 Local Government Areas of the state collectively donated ₦10 million.
Represented by the Director-General of Special Services, retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru, the governor praised the sacrifices of fallen heroes and commended the ongoing efforts of security personnel combating insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry across the nation. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property in Kano, maintaining the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in Nigeria.
The governor called on stakeholders to support initiatives by the Nigeria Legion, particularly in transportation, agriculture, and housing development, to improve the welfare of veterans and their families. He urged citizens to wear the Armed Forces remembrance emblems with pride, honoring those who died for the nation’s peace and unity.
Retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru contributed ₦300,000 to the fund. The state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Army Warrant Officer (AWO) Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude to all donors, assuring that the funds would be judiciously utilized.
Other notable donations included ₦500,000 each from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy, ₦250,000 each from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, and ₦100,000 each from the NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Brig. Gen. Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd) of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse.
As part of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities, Governor Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Abdulsalam Gwarzo, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony to honor fallen heroes.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf described the Armed Forces as symbols of patriotism and assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten. He pledged continued government support for their families, officers, and men.
Veterans in attendance thanked God for their lives and urged the government to ensure prompt payment of their retirement benefits.
