Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has commended the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who dedicated their lives to preserving national unity and fostering peace globally.

Representing the Governor during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations in Gombe, Deputy Governor Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the State Government. The event, held at the Pantami Township Stadium, featured the laying of wreaths and a N6 million donation to the Nigerian Legion in Gombe State.
In his address, Dr. Jatau highlighted the significance of the Remembrance Day, emphasizing its role in honoring those who paid the ultimate price for peace. He acknowledged the combined observances of the emblem launch and wreath-laying as a moment to reflect on the value of peace and the contributions of military personnel.

“Peace is a cherished goal for all human communities, and it is through the sacrifices of our military personnel and security agencies that peace is preserved,” he noted.
Dr. Jatau further acknowledged the challenges faced by families of fallen heroes, including widows, orphans, and veterans living with disabilities. He urged citizens to support the Nigerian Legion and contribute to improving the welfare of these families. Additionally, he called on Gombe residents to collaborate with security agencies to ensure the continued safety and stability of the state.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for sustained peace and security across Gombe and Nigeria at large.
Retired Sgt. Adamu Dogo, Chairman of the Gombe State Legion, expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya for fulfilling the N6 million pledge from the previous year and for offering Legion members roles as security officers in 12 schools across the state over the past 22 years.

He appealed to the State Government for assistance in securing office accommodation and a vehicle to enhance the Legion’s operations.
The event reinforced the state’s commitment to honoring and supporting those who have served the nation, while fostering a collective resolve to maintain peace and unity.
