The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has called off its strike action, which lasted over a month.

Dr. Joshua Mbaver, the ASUU chairman, announced the suspension in a press release on Saturday, citing the Taraba State Government’s commitment to addressing the union’s demands, which prompted the strike on December 5, 2024.
The strike was initiated due to the partial implementation of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Memoranda of Action (MoAs) agreed upon with the government since 2014.

Key resolutions reached include: Enhanced university funding as stipulated by Taraba State Law No. 4 of 2008.
Initial payment of 10% of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), with 5% to be disbursed monthly from February 2025 until full settlement.
Approval and implementation of a State-Defined Pension Scheme for prompt benefit payments.

A finalized template for clearing arrears by February 2025.
Adjustments to align the University Governing Council membership with statutory requirements.
Implementation of the national minimum wage and commitments to timely salary payments.

Dr. Mbaver expressed appreciation to ASUU National, zonal leadership, and the university congress for their support. He also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Agbu Kefas, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, and the university administration for their collaborative roles in resolving the issues.
The union thanked all stakeholders for their contributions, ensuring the suspension of the strike and the continuation of academic activities at the university.
