Architects in Nigeria have been charged to uphold integrity and professionalism in their roles as leaders of the built environment.

This call was made by Arc. Ali Mukhtar-Adnan, the 3rd Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), during a keynote address at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Taraba State Chapter, which coincided with its 10th-anniversary celebration. The event took place at the Blue Nile Suites, Jalingo, on Sunday.

Represented by Arc. Aliyu Babaji, Mukhtar-Adnan highlighted the critical role architects play in designing sustainable, innovative spaces that enhance quality of life. He urged members to embrace their leadership roles with a focus on addressing global challenges such as urbanization, climate change, and social equity.

“Our leadership transcends technical expertise. It is about advocating for best practices, engaging stakeholders, and driving solutions that resonate with the realities of our time. As you go into elections today, I encourage all members to elect leaders with integrity, dedication, and a collaborative spirit. These qualities are essential for the chapter’s growth and influence,” Mukhtar-Adnan stated.

The outgoing Chairman of the Taraba Chapter, Arc. Ibrahim Mohammad, reflected on the chapter’s progress since its inauguration on January 15, 2015, in Abuja.

“This anniversary celebration is proof of our collective efforts, perseverance, and commitment to advancing our profession. Our past leaders have done their best, and we hope the chapter will continue its dedication to promoting excellence in architecture, design, and construction within Taraba State. Let us celebrate our achievements, learn from our experiences, and work towards a brighter future for our profession and our state,” he said.

Guest speaker Arc. Bulus Bello-Umar emphasized the need for architects to innovate and create habitable spaces by leveraging technology and professionalism to enhance service delivery while ensuring environmental sustainability.

During the event, the chapter elected new executives, with Arc. Adashu Agbu as Chairman, Arc. Ignatius Agbese as Vice Chairman, and Arc. Bulus Bello-Umar as Secretary, among others.
