The Gombe State Commissioner of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperative, Dr. Barnabas Malle, has called on farmers in the state to embrace irrigation farming.

Speaking to our roving reporters in his office, the commissioner highlighted the state government’s readiness to support farmers in this endeavor.

Dr. Malle emphasized that irrigation farming is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by last year’s rainy season, which negatively impacted crop yields due to unfavorable weather conditions.

He stated that farming plays a vital role in combating hunger, boosting food production, and creating employment opportunities. According to him, the government remains committed to revitalizing agriculture to ensure food security and sustainable development.

The commissioner also encouraged youths to participate in farming, noting that agriculture offers numerous opportunities for empowerment and economic growth.

He assured that the state government has made significant preparations for the upcoming farming season, particularly by providing farmers with essential farming tools and implements. These efforts, he said, aim to enhance food production and strengthen food security across Gombe State.
