The Kano State Government has condemned the closure of the venue designated for the 2025 National Tijjaniyya Maulud.
The event, scheduled to take place at Kofar Mata Stadium, has been a significant religious gathering for 39 years.
Addressing journalists, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, criticized the move as unnecessary and unjustified.
He stated that there have been no security threats reported in the state to warrant such a measure.
“The presence of security operatives at the venue of this significant religious activity is unwarranted and unacceptable,” Waiya said.
He emphasized that the Tijjaniyya Maulud is organized by a legitimately registered and recognized body and should not face obstructions.
He assured the public that the event will proceed as planned on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 8:00 AM.
He also called on attendees from across the country to remain peaceful and steadfast in their commitment to the gathering.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command issued a warning about a potential security threat.
In a statement, police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Kiyawa disclosed that intelligence reports suggest suspected terrorists are planning attacks on public gatherings and strategic locations in Kano.
As a preventive measure, the police have urged residents to exercise caution, avoid crowded places, and remain vigilant while security agencies work to dislodge potential threats.
