Misunderstanding between NSCDC officer and a soldier with the 20 Model Battalion Sarti, stationed in Ngoruje, Sardauna Local Government Area, has resulted to the death of the soldier following a reported conflict with an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at a checkpoint in Ngoruje.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Sunday Pointer, said the NSCDC officer, while on escort duty, allegedly shot the soldier, leading to his immediate death.
The event reportedly caused tension in the community, but the situation has since been brought under control, with the NSCDC officer apprehended and placed in security custody.
The eyewitness accounts indicate that soldiers in the area have expressed readiness to address any perceived threats from sister agencies in the future.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been deposited at the Gembu General Hospital mortuary for further investigation.
Efforts by Sunday POINTER to obtain comments from the Taraba State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdulahi Usman, were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment. Similarly, the NSCDC State Command PPRO, CSC, Iliya Samuila, did not respond to calls or text messages as of the time of this report.
