The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) Bill, calling it a significant and visionary step toward inclusive governance and regional development.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Prof. Sulaiman underscored that the signing of the bill reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to equitable development and national unity.
The NILDS DG highlighted the critical role of the North Central Region in Nigeria’s political and economic stability, while acknowledging the region’s developmental challenges, such as infrastructure deficits, security issues, and economic setbacks. He emphasized that the establishment of the NCDC would provide a structured framework to address these challenges and create economic opportunities.

Prof. Sulaiman also praised the leadership of the National Assembly, especially Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, for their roles in ensuring the passage of the bill. He further recognized Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, for his continuous advocacy and efforts in pushing the bill through.
With the NCDC now a reality, Prof. Sulaiman called for effective implementation and urged federal and state governments, traditional rulers, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations to collaborate in ensuring that the commission fulfills its mandate.

“This is a defining moment for the North Central Region, and I urge all stakeholders to embrace this opportunity to drive sustainable development for the benefit of our people,” he stated.
