The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Tukur Muhammad and Yahaya Abdullahi, for allegedly conspiring to extort a resident in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area. The suspects were arrested following a threat to kidnap the victim and his family unless a ransom was paid.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident occurred on January 15, 2025, when the victim, a resident of Ajuba Fulani Camp in Ilesha Baruba, discovered a white paper at his doorstep containing two phone numbers. After calling one of the numbers, the victim was threatened with the kidnapping of his family unless ₦20 million was paid. Following negotiations, the demand was reduced to ₦4 million, and the victim promptly reported the matter to the police.

Intelligence-led investigations by the State Criminal Investigations Department (Anti-Kidnapping Squad) traced the phone numbers to the suspects. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to placing their contact details at the victim’s residence to initiate communication and extort money. Further inquiries revealed they had used multiple phone numbers to threaten and extort other victims as well.
The suspects have been charged in court and remanded in a correctional facility pending further legal proceedings.
