The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has successfully graduated 25 rice and cassava farm machine fabricators in Taraba under its Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP). The graduates were also provided with starter packs to enable them to start their businesses immediately.

Mr. Irimiya Musa, the State Programme Coordinator, emphasized that the VCDP is focused on creating employment opportunities for the youth in Taraba. He highlighted that the programme covers all aspects of rice and cassava farming, including production, processing, and marketing.

Musa commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his continued support, particularly his prompt payment of counterpart funding, which he said was vital to the programme’s success. He also praised Taraba State Polytechnic for its role in training the fabricators, contributing to the overall growth of the agricultural sector.

The State Programme Coordinator urged the graduates not to sell their starter packs but to use them as a foundation for building their businesses and enhancing food security in the state.

Dr. Fatima Kabiru, the National Programme Coordinator, acknowledged Taraba’s achievements under the VCDP, noting the significant impact the programme has had in empowering youth and improving agricultural practices. She also commended the state government for its commitment to timely counterpart funding.

Mrs. Salla Ali, Permanent Secretary of the Taraba Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, praised the VCDP for its transformative projects, which are helping to develop the agricultural value chain in the state.

On behalf of the graduates, Malam Uba Saidu expressed gratitude to the Taraba government and IFAD for providing them with the opportunity to become self-employed. He promised to work diligently to contribute to the development of the state and its agricultural sector.

This initiative aims to strengthen food security in Taraba by improving the efficiency of rice and cassava farming, creating sustainable jobs, and supporting local entrepreneurship.
