The Taraba State Commissioner for Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Habu James Philip, on Thursday condemned recent allegations made by activist Ambassador Rekwensi Muri and a youth group from the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration. Philip dismissed the claims as misleading and laughable, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the state.
Muri, a member of the APC, along with the youth group, accused Governor Kefas of excessive spending on foreign trips while failing to execute any developmental projects since his assumption of office on May 29, 2023. However, Hon. Philip vehemently rejected these accusations, stressing that they were based on falsehoods and designed to create a negative image of the governor’s administration.
In response, the commissioner highlighted a series of transformational projects that have been implemented under Governor Kefas, which he said are already improving the lives of Tarabans. These include the declaration of free education, a significant reduction in higher education fees, and the distribution of financial support to youths aged 18 to 45.
“Governor Kefas’ administration is committed to improving the lives of the people of Taraba. The governor has prioritized road rehabilitation, particularly to enhance access to local markets, which will directly benefit farmers,” said Hon. Philip. “In partnership with NG-Cares, we have also provided financial assistance to over 10,000 vulnerable individuals in the state.”
The commissioner also praised the governor’s efforts in healthcare, citing the ongoing remodeling of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as improvements to several general hospitals across the state. He further noted that the governor’s implementation of the new national minimum wage has made Taraba State University among the highest-paying institutions in Nigeria.
Hon. Philip also highlighted the substantial improvements in security, which, he said, have allowed farmers to work without fear and boosted the state’s agricultural output. Additionally, women empowerment initiatives, such as the distribution of rice and groundnut processing machines across all 16 local government areas, were also emphasized as key achievements of the administration.
