The Gombe State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will hold a reception on Saturday, February 16, 2025, to honor Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, the newly elected National President of the union. Yahaya, a former National Deputy President and two-term Gombe State Council Chairman, was elected during the NUJ’s 8th triennial delegates conference in Owerri, Imo State, in November 2024.

This reception is a historic occasion, as it marks the first time the entire northeast subregion has produced the NUJ president. The Gombe State council expressed its full support for Yahaya’s leadership, reaffirming its confidence in his ability to lead the union.

During a congress meeting at the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) newsroom, members of the council also commended the Gombe State Government for completing the state’s NUJ secretariat and creating a favorable environment for journalists to practice without hindrances.

The council also praised the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for its significant achievements in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, security, and infrastructure. Of particular note was the digital transformation of the Gombe Media Corporation’s radio and television stations, which are now accessible via satellite.

In addition, the council acknowledged the leadership of Mallam Ibrahim Isah, Director General of GMC, for his efforts in equipping the corporation with state-of-the-art technology.

Finally, the council reminded members to pay their checkoff dues and professional fees between January and June 2025, urging all journalists to take the matter seriously.
