The West Africa Youth Congress (WAYC) has urged the Nigerian government to immediately suspend the operations of the Canadian embassy in Nigeria following the alleged denial of visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other senior military officers.
In a statement issued by Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Marafa, WAYC condemned the Canadian embassy for refusing to grant visas to the CDS and his team, despite an official invitation to attend an event honoring war veterans. The organization described the embassy’s actions as a blatant disrespect towards Nigeria’s military leadership and an embarrassment to the nation.
The WAYC has given the Canadian embassy three weeks to issue a formal apology. If the embassy fails to do so, the group warned it would mobilize protests in response to the perceived humiliation of Nigeria’s senior military officials.
The statement also called on the Nigerian government to suspend the activities of the Canadian embassy in Nigeria until an apology is issued. WAYC commended Gen. Musa and his team for their professionalism and restraint in handling the situation, preventing it from escalating into a larger diplomatic issue.
