Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the success of the GAVI-Primary Health Care (PHC) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) project.

Speaking at a ceremony in Gombe Government House, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor expressed gratitude to development partners and stakeholders for their vital role in the project’s success and outlined a comprehensive sustainability plan for continued progress.

Governor Inuwa emphasized the state’s efforts in revitalizing the healthcare sector, citing the declaration of a health emergency in 2019, which led to the overhaul of healthcare infrastructure. Notable achievements include the revitalization of 114 PHC facilities and the establishment of the Go-Health healthcare scheme, which has enrolled over 154,000 beneficiaries.

Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, commended Gombe’s dedication, including the state’s N500 million contribution to the project and the recruitment of 440 healthcare workers. She highlighted the remarkable improvements in immunization rates, skilled birth attendants, and maternal and child healthcare services.

The ceremony also featured presentations of awards to key partners—GAVI, UNICEF, WHO, and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum—for their outstanding support, as well as to individuals like Dr. Jibrin Umar Mohammed and Vivian Alibo, recognized for their exceptional contributions to the GAVI-PHC MoU implementation.

Governor Inuwa assured continued collaboration with stakeholders to ensure lasting improvements in the state’s healthcare system, focusing on expanding access and strengthening services for mothers and children.
