The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has officially commissioned newly renovated chemistry laboratories at the University of Jos, valued at 700 million Naira.

The renovation, funded by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), took place at the university’s Bauchi Road campus.
In a ceremony held on Tuesday, the Minister, represented by NOTAP’s Director General, Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi, emphasized the need for tertiary institutions and research centers across Nigeria to have well-equipped and functional laboratories. Nnaji called for more collaborations to enhance the country’s scientific and technological capabilities.

Responding to the gesture, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, expressed gratitude for the upgrade, stating that the improved facilities would significantly benefit both students and lecturers in advancing research and innovation.
Professor Ishaya also thanked the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology for its support and the partnership with PZ Cussions Nigeria Plc, which jointly funded the renovation.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the University of Jos is part of a wider initiative to upgrade facilities, with several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with various organizations to further enhance the university’s infrastructure for the benefit of society.

The Chief Executive Officer of PZ Cussions Nigeria Plc, Mr. Dimitri Kostianis, also spoke at the event, noting that the University of Jos is the eighth institution to benefit from the laboratory upgrades, and the first in the North-Central region.
