The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called for a unified effort to tackle the rising incidence of vandalism in Kwara State, stressing the need for collective action to protect critical national infrastructure.

During a stakeholders’ meeting at the Ade Abolurin Hall, the NSCDC Kwara State Command engaged government officials, community leaders, industry stakeholders, and the Chairman of the Scrap Association to devise effective strategies to curb vandalism, which is severely affecting economic growth and national security.

Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, the State Commandant, represented by DCC Olushola Davies, condemned the escalating vandalism, emphasizing its detrimental impact on development and national security. “Vandalism undermines both the economy and security. It is a collective responsibility to protect public infrastructure, and we must take immediate action to stop this criminal activity,” he stated.

The Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit, ACC Awoyale Olusoji, assured attendees that the NSCDC would intensify efforts to protect vital assets, including oil pipelines, electricity installations, water reservoirs, and railway lines. He warned that perpetrators would face severe penalties and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to bringing vandals to justice.

In response, stakeholders pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, while community leaders called for increased public awareness on the dangers of vandalism and the importance of safeguarding public assets.
