The Galadima Muri of Muri Emirate and District Head of Jalingo, Alhaji Lamido Abba Tukur, has called on farmers and traders in Taraba to reduce food prices in light of the current economic challenges faced by the poor.
Speaking during a celebration marking his 40th anniversary on the throne, the traditional ruler expressed concern over the rising cost of food items, which he said is worsening the plight of indigent residents.
Alhaji Tukur highlighted the impact of the Naira’s devaluation, describing it as a looming crisis for the poor.
He urged those involved in food trade to consider the difficulties faced by the less fortunate and make adjustments to ease their burden.
“The devaluation of the Naira has worsened the situation, and if not addressed, it will lead to further hardship,” he stated.
In addition to his appeal on food prices, the Galadima commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his proactive efforts in tackling insecurity in Taraba.
He credited the governor with restoring peace to the state, allowing citizens to access their farms and businesses without fear.
“The governor’s fight against banditry has brought peace to Jalingo and the entire state, significantly improving the daily lives of residents,” Tukur said.
Alhaji Tukur’s remarks were echoed by the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Kabiru Mararafa, and HRH Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, who both praised the Galadima for his leadership.
They described him as a role model for the traditional institution, whose actions continue to inspire positive development across the country.
