The Taraba State College of Education Zing has officially launched several skill acquisition centers aimed at promoting self-reliance and providing job opportunities.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Technical Education and Home Economics Departments, is designed to equip individuals with practical skills to thrive in society.
The new centers include the Institute of Fashion Design, Food Laboratory, Guest House with Local Kitchen, Trading Machine Center, and Modern Kitchen. In addition, the Technical Education Center features workshops for the Building Industry, Automotive and Metal Works, and Woodworking, among others.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Professor Ejika Sambo, Provost of the College of Education Zing, explained that the initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to enhance educational opportunities through the free education policy launched by Governor Agbu Kefas.
Sambo noted that the centers are designed to help individuals gain valuable skills, promoting self-reliance and reducing unemployment in the region.
“This project is a collaborative effort between the Taraba State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND),” Prof. Sambo said.
“It is part of a broader vision to uplift educational institutions across the country, positioning Taraba State as a leader in education.”
Sambo also commended TETFUND for prioritizing this project, expressing optimism that the college will now be better equipped to compete with other institutions nationwide.
He urged both the management and students of the centers to handle the facilities responsibly, emphasizing that the programs will be available to the wider community, with courses lasting three to six months and certificates awarded upon completion.
Aliyu Usman Adamu, Head of the Technical Education Department and Director of Skills Development, highlighted the importance of student commitment to learning.
“The Technical Education Center is crucial in training individuals to become self-reliant,” he said. “Students must be disciplined and apply the knowledge they gain to make a positive impact on society.”
This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the empowerment of both students and the broader community in Taraba State.
