The Nigerian Army has taken steps to foster a peaceful farming season in Plateau State through a one-day stakeholder engagement held in Bokkos Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The meeting, led by Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3rd Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), emphasized the crucial role of security in promoting economic activities like farming and herding.

Oyinlola highlighted Plateau State’s agricultural potential and the importance of building on past security successes to ensure peaceful coexistence.

He noted that the engagement was aimed at promoting a secure and successful 2025 farming season by bringing together various community perspectives.

Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, representing Plateau State Governor Istifanus Mwansat, pledged ongoing support for OPSH’s operational effectiveness in the state.

Mutfwang urged traditional rulers and community leaders to set examples of peace for others to follow.

Julie Sanda, Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, praised the grassroots approach of the initiative and called on attendees to prevent criminals from finding refuge in their communities.

Da Lawrence Amadam Aizate, Saf Kulere and Acting President of the Bokkos Traditional Council, commended OPSH and other security agencies for maintaining peace in the region.

The event saw participation from a broad spectrum of local leaders, including traditional rulers, religious figures, and youth and women leaders, all of whom are committed to ensuring a secure environment for the 2025 farming season.

The initiative follows previous OPSH engagements that have successfully reduced farmer-herder clashes and ensured a peaceful harvest and holiday season.
