The Kaduna State Government has partnered with the French Development Agency (AFD) to implement the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT) Project, aimed at transforming the state’s transportation sector.

Speaking at a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat in Kaduna, the Director General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Engineer Inuwa Ibrahim, outlined the project’s importance. He stated that the KBRT Project is a key part of Governor Uba Sani’s urban mobility agenda, designed to modernize public transportation, ease traffic congestion, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

Engineer Ibrahim explained that AFD’s involvement is critical in supporting sustainable development projects like the KBRT. The agency is providing vital financial backing to ensure the project’s success, which aims to address transportation challenges in the state, including congestion and inefficiencies in public transport operations.

The KBRT will feature a 24-km dedicated transit corridor running from Kawo Bridge to Sabon Tasha, with modern bus stations and shelters. This initiative is expected to provide a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation system, stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities for residents.

Governor Uba Sani has shown strong commitment to the project. In 2023, he released N97 million in counterpart funding, which revitalized the initiative. For 2024, the Governor allocated N699 million, and in the 2025 budget, N30 billion is set aside, with N5 billion earmarked as counterpart funding.

The KBRT is expected to reduce congestion, shorten travel times, and improve road safety, all while contributing to environmental sustainability. KADSTRA also emphasized the role of the media in raising awareness about the project, ensuring public engagement and support throughout its implementation.

Once completed, the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit system will significantly enhance urban mobility, positioning Kaduna as a model for modern public transportation.
