Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has expressed confidence that the Northwest region of Nigeria has the necessary human and material resources to overcome its economic challenges and achieve significant growth.

Governor Namadi made the remarks in Dutse during a courtesy visit from the Board and Management of the Northwest Development Commission at the Government House. He urged the Commission to develop a clear and focused vision for the region’s economic and infrastructural development.
“We have the resources—both human and material—to change the current economic situation. With proper planning and implementation, we can transform the Northwest into an economic powerhouse,” Governor Namadi stated.

The governor commended the leadership of the newly established Northwest Development Commission, offering the full support of the Jigawa State government and the Northwest Governors’ Forum. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Commission and state governments to drive sustainable development in the region.
Governor Namadi acknowledged the Northwest’s high poverty rate but argued that the region’s potential could turn this around. He urged the Commission to prioritize long-term goals such as infrastructure, education, security, and economic growth, rather than focusing on temporary solutions.

He also stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the Commission’s operations, stating, “The people must see your genuine commitment to their development. Once they trust you, they will support you.”
In response, the Chairman of the Northwest Development Commission Board, Lawal Abdullahi, thanked the governors for their role in establishing the Commission. He assured the governor that the Commission would work closely with state governments, especially Jigawa, which has strong agricultural potential.

Abdullahi outlined the Commission’s focus on addressing key regional challenges, including security, education, and economic empowerment, and called for Governor Namadi’s leadership in garnering support from other governors to ensure the success of the Commission.
This engagement was documented in a press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Gumel.
