A fire outbreak late Friday night in Ilorin, Kwara State, was quickly brought under control by the Kwara State Fire Service, preventing a major disaster. The fire, which started around 8:05 p.m. on March 7, 2025, in a residential building on Ejiba Road, was traced to a gas cooker left unattended.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene, battling the flames and saving 89 of the 104 rooms in the storey building. However, 15 rooms were affected before the fire could be contained.
Prince Falade John, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed concern over the increasing number of fire incidents linked to negligence, particularly with gas cookers. “This is the second fire incident in a week caused by improper handling of gas cookers,” he said, urging residents to be more cautious and to avoid leaving gas appliances unattended.
The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety through rapid emergency response and ongoing fire prevention awareness campaigns.
