Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed recent reports claiming he is set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Saturday, Atiku’s media office labeled the allegations as a “fallacy” and urged Nigerians to disregard the unfounded rumors.
The reports, which suggested Atiku was considering joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 presidential election, were quickly refuted by his team.
Atiku’s media office clarified that the former vice president remains a steadfast member of the PDP, the country’s main opposition party.
The statement also emphasized Atiku’s continued commitment to a coalition of opposition political parties aimed at challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
The media office called the defection claims “misleading,” asserting that such reports were an attempt to undermine the unity of the opposition movement.
“Atiku Abubakar is focused on building a grand coalition to rescue Nigeria from the APC’s grip,” the statement concluded, stressing that the former vice president’s position within the PDP remains unchanged.
