The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has announced a strong revenue growth trajectory, aiming to increase its revenue from N31.14 billion in 2024 to N52 billion by 2025.
Pam Wayas, Chairman of the PSIRS, shared the progress during a press briefing on Friday in Jos, stating that the service has made significant strides since its formation in 2023. In 2023, the service inherited a total revenue of N15.9 billion, which was increased to N25.8 billion by the end of the year. In 2024, revenue grew further to N31.14 billion.
Wayas attributed this growth to the service’s commitment to improving tax compliance and revenue generation. “In January 2025 alone, we collected N3.3 billion, marking a strong start towards achieving our target of N52 billion,” he said.
While acknowledging challenges, such as a decline in federal allocations due to foreign debts, Wayas assured that the service is exploring new revenue streams. These include property tax, land use charges, and collaboration with local governments and the National Population Commission to ensure a fair tax contribution from all sectors.
Wayas also emphasized the service’s focus on leveraging technology and data to improve tax collection and reduce evasion. “Our goal is to create a model of tax compliance and revenue generation in Plateau State,” he added.
He urged citizens to pay their taxes voluntarily, assuring them that the funds would be used to develop the state and improve the lives of its citizens.
