The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Gombe State has distanced itself from the Ramadan palliative distribution to political parties through the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) organized by the Gombe State Government.

The party has described the food distribution as politically motivated and aimed at deceiving the people of the state.
Comrade Adamu Modibbo, Acting State Chairman of the SDP, made the party’s stance clear in a strongly worded statement, accusing the APC-led government of deliberately hoarding the palliatives for an extended period.
According to the SDP, the foodstuffs, which were meant to alleviate the economic hardship of the people, were only released now for political gain.

“These foodstuffs are part of the long-awaited palliatives meant for the people but were deliberately hoarded by the Government instead of being distributed when citizens were facing severe hardship. Now, they are being released for political gain, further exposing the insincerity of the APC administration,” said Modibbo.
The party also questioned the timing of the distribution, asking, “If the Government truly cared about the people, why didn’t they distribute these foodstuffs months ago when inflation and hunger were at their peak? Instead, they allowed the suffering of the people to deepen, only to now distribute these palliatives in a desperate bid to regain public trust.”
In the statement, the SDP also pointed out that the APC government is responsible for the economic challenges faced by the people of Gombe.

The party called on the government to focus on sustainable solutions such as investing in agriculture, creating jobs, and implementing policies that reduce the cost of essential commodities.
Furthermore, the SDP raised concerns over the safety and quality of the food, given its long storage.
The party expressed doubts about its suitability for consumption, stating, “We cannot guarantee the safety and quality of these foodstuffs.
The fact that they were hoarded for an extended period raises serious concerns about their hygiene and suitability for human consumption.”

The SDP emphasized that it would not align with IPAC or any other group to partake in what it termed political theatrics aimed at misleading the people of Gombe State.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of the people.
“We call on the people of Gombe to see through this act of political desperation and hold the APC-led Government accountable for its failures.

Our people deserve real solutions, not last-minute gimmicks disguised as relief,” the statement concluded.
