Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed his deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the conversion of the newly reconstructed General Hospital Kumo into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

Governor Inuwa, in a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Gombe, described the move as a significant step towards enhancing healthcare delivery in the state and the broader Northeast region.

He emphasized that the upgraded medical facility would not only improve healthcare services but also serve as a teaching hospital for both the Federal University of Kashere and Lincoln University, Kumo, contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals.

The Governor also highlighted the strategic importance of the 200-bed ultramodern facility, which is designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services.

The federal takeover, he noted, follows the earlier upgrade of the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe to a Federal Teaching Hospital.

“I am excited about the approval by our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the takeover and conversion of the General Hospital Kumo to a Federal Medical Centre.

This development will no doubt enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to our people in Gombe State and our neighbouring states,” Governor Inuwa stated.

He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Government, particularly the Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, for their role in advancing the state’s healthcare agenda.

The Presidency, in an announcement on March 9, 2025, praised Governor Inuwa’s commitment to improving the healthcare sector in Gombe.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, noted that the Federal Government recognizes Gombe’s efforts to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes comprehensive reforms in healthcare.

Governor Inuwa’s administration has been active in upgrading health facilities across the state, including the remodeling of the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, two general hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo, and the construction of a new general hospital in Kumo, in addition to revitalizing 114 Primary Healthcare Centres.
