In what has sparked controversy in Gombe’s political landscape, the Acting Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, has accused Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of verbally harassing him during a flight from Gombe to Abuja on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Comrade Modibbo’s allegations have been strongly refuted by the Gombe State Government.
Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, dismissed the claims as “a lie from the pit of hell,” emphasizing that there was no confrontation or assault involving the Governor.
He condemned the accusations as part of an attempt at “cheap blackmail,” urging the public to disregard what he described as misleading claims.
However, in a statement released to the press, Comrade Modibbo stood by his account, calling Misilli’s denial “misleading and baseless.”
He described the encounter as a shocking display of aggression by Governor Inuwa, who allegedly launched into a heated verbal attack and even attempted physical confrontation.
Modibbo claimed that despite the provocation, he maintained composure and refrained from retaliating.
The SDP Chairman further criticized the Governor’s media team for attempting to downplay the incident, accusing them of “face-saving propaganda” instead of addressing the Governor’s alleged behavior. He called on the Gombe State Government to prove that the incident did not occur and accused them of attempting to suppress opposition voices.
“The people of Gombe deserve leaders who embody humility, maturity, and respect for democratic principles,” the statement concluded. “Intimidation and reckless conduct will not deter the SDP from its commitment to providing a credible alternative for the people of Gombe State.”
The controversy over the alleged incident has drawn significant attention, adding to the ongoing tensions between political factions in the state.
