The National Association for Scrap Artisans and Craft (NASAC) has weighed in on the ongoing feud between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, alleging that the dispute is part of a larger external conspiracy aimed at tarnishing Nigeria’s global reputation.
In a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Kaduna, NASAC’s National Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim, strongly defended Akpabio, dismissing the sexual harassment allegations against him as an unfair attempt to undermine his character.
Ibrahim, who has known Akpabio for over 30 years, described the Senate President as a disciplined leader and refuted the claims as baseless.
“These allegations are part of a broader plot to damage the image of Nigeria,” Ibrahim said.
“They want to create the false narrative that Nigerian women cannot succeed in politics without offering their bodies in exchange for positions.
This is not just about Akpabio; it’s an orchestrated attempt to destabilize Nigeria.”
He further accused those supporting Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims of being misguided, arguing that her accusations were harmful to the reputation of Nigerian women in politics.
Ibrahim also questioned the senator’s recent public display of affection with her husband within the Senate Chamber, calling it inappropriate and part of an effort to provoke or embarrass Akpabio.
While acknowledging the need for an investigation into the matter, Ibrahim criticized the way Natasha had handled the situation, particularly her actions in the Senate.
“The Senate President was calm and received her complaint formally, but her public display with her husband in the chamber was inappropriate,” he added.
Ibrahim concluded by urging Nigerians to reject any attempts to use this dispute to divide the country, calling for unity in the face of external forces seeking to destabilize Nigeria’s political landscape.
