The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has stepped up efforts to enhance security and safeguard students in schools across the state.
A sensitization campaign, aimed at raising awareness on security issues, personal safety, and the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, and sexual harassment, was conducted on Monday, March 10, 2025, in selected secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area.
NSCDC’s Area ‘K’ Commander, ACC Adebayo Kehinde, alongside DSC Mike Orilade, the State Coordinator of the Safe School Response Coordination Centre (SSRCC), and NOA representative Mrs. Isimikaye Grace, led the session.
They emphasized the importance of vigilance, proactive reporting of suspicious activities, and staying alert to potential threats in and around school premises.
During the event, DSC Orilade urged students to avoid vices such as cultism and drug abuse, stressing that these pose serious risks to their future.
He also encouraged students to report incidents of molestation or suspicious behavior to teachers or school counselors without fear of intimidation.
School principals from institutions like United Secondary School, Sheikh Abdulsalam Secondary School, St. Williams Secondary School, and Government Secondary School, Oke Aluko, lauded the initiative. They pledged to reinforce the lessons learned, ensuring a secure and disciplined school environment for all students.
NSCDC Commandant, Umar J.G. Mohammed, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to strengthening school security, in line with the directive from the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
He assured that the Safe School Initiative would continue to be a priority, ensuring schools remain safe spaces for learning and personal growth.
