Markus Useni, the PDP chairmanship aspirant for Jos East LGA, has pledged to bring innovative governance to the area, leveraging autonomy to address development needs at the grassroots level.

Useni while speaking to Journalists shortly after submitting his nomination form at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Jos said with over a year of experience as interim transition committee chairman, he has executed numerous projects and programs, bolstering his confidence to run for the executive chairman position.
The aspirant maintained that he aims to introduce modern technologies and improve education in Jos East, recognizing the area’s low levels of technological understanding and educational attainment. Adding, he plans to engage with the state government to create a synergy between local and state efforts, particularly in education.
In agriculture, Useni said he intends to establish markets to support the sector, enabling local produce to reach a broader audience and boosting the local economy.

He acknowledges Jos East’s potential as a global producer of high-quality vegetables, but notes the absence of market facilities.
“Autonomy for local governments is one of the key reasons I’m running for this position. Jos East is one of the most underdeveloped local governments in Plateau State. I am committed to changing this narrative. The level of education and technological understanding in our area is low.
“We need to introduce modern technologies and improve education because we are in a digital world now. For example, in my district, Shere, we have only one public school. We need to engage with the state government to create a synergy between local and state governments to complement each other’s efforts.

In agriculture, despite Jos East producing some of the best vegetables globally, we don’t have any market facilities. Once elected, I plan to establish markets to support the agricultural sector, ensuring that local produce can reach a broader audience and boost the local economy”; said.
Useni added that his vision for Jos East includes transforming the area into a hub of modern technologies and education, addressing the development needs of the community, and unlocking its full potential.
With his experience and commitment, Useni is poised to make a meaningful impact as the substantive elected chairman of Jos East LGA.
