The opposition in Gombe State suffered a setback as the Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hon. Rambi Ibrahim Ayala, officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Ayala registered as an APC member in his Billiri South ward, bringing along a large number of supporters.

Welcoming him into the party were the Chairperson of Billiri Local Government Area, Hon. Egla Idris, alongside her counterparts from Shongom, Kaltungo, and Akko LGAs. Also present were prominent APC stakeholders, including former Billiri LGA Chairperson Margaret Paulo and the State Commissioner for Environment, Water, and Forest Resources.
The APC Ward Secretary, Malam Yusha’u Shehu, who represented the party chairman, praised Ayala’s political achievements, describing him as a seasoned politician and activist. He emphasized that Ayala’s defection was a major boost for the APC in Billiri LGA and the state at large.

Explaining his decision to join the APC, Ayala lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for their developmental efforts. He also commended Hon. Egla Idris for her leadership in Billiri, aligning with his vision for community progress.
“I am impressed by the unifying leadership of Hon. Egla and the renewed hope agenda of the APC. I pledge my full support to the party in all aspects,” Ayala stated.
Representing Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the event, Hon. Mohammed Saidu Fawu hailed Ayala’s political influence and assured him of full integration into the party.

In her remarks, Billiri LGA Chairperson Hon. Egla Idris expressed excitement over Ayala’s return to the APC, stressing that his political experience would be valuable to the party. She also warned youths against being used for political violence, urging them to focus on positive engagement in governance.
Ayala’s defection marks a significant shift in Gombe’s political landscape, further strengthening the APC while weakening the opposition in the state.
