In a bid to promote religious tolerance and foster better understanding between faith-based communities, Christian leaders in Kaduna recently joined their Muslim counterparts for an interfaith iftar breakfast at the Central Mosque of Masallacin Yan Doya.
The event, held during the holy month of Ramadan, aimed to strengthen peace, love, forgiveness, and mutual understanding between the two faiths.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, Team Leader and General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, led the Christian delegation.
He explained that the annual interfaith iftar dinner has been a platform for Christian and Muslim leaders to exchange goodwill messages and discuss ways to promote interreligious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
For the past 19 years, Pastor Buru has been actively participating in Ramadan iftar gatherings with Islamic scholars, forging stronger ties and unity between the two communities.
He emphasized that the initiative is not only aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence in Nigeria but also across West Africa, including neighboring countries like Niger Republic.
“This effort will help strengthen interfaith relations and promote peace and unity,” said Pastor Buru. “It is a powerful message that urges Nigerians to rise above divisions based on ethnicity, religion, politics, and region.”
The interfaith iftar event also offered an opportunity for non-Muslims to join Muslims in breaking their fast, engage in peace dialogues, and explore ways to live in harmony. The gathering reaffirmed the importance of unity for greater stability in the country.
Pastor Buru, accompanied by Reverend Dr. Maxwell and other church members, visited the Yan Doya mosque, continuing a long-standing tradition of Christian-Muslim collaboration.
Reflecting on his experiences, Pastor Buru mentioned that he had previously joined prominent Islamic leaders such as the Sultan of Sokoto and Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi to break fast, underscoring his commitment to strengthening Christian-Muslim relations.
In response, Sheikh Ibrahim Kyauta, the Chief Imam of Yan Doya Mosque, expressed his appreciation for the visit and commended the efforts to promote peace. He prayed that God would reward Pastor Buru for his dedication to fostering unity across Nigeria.
