The Gombe State Nationwide League Football Pre-Season Tournament has received a boost with the donation of N200,000 cash as prize for the tournament’s winner and N50,000 for the organizers courtesy Malam Farouk Yarma.

Not only that, Yarma, the pioneer Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission and former commissioner of Youth Empowerment, also made a donation of 40 FIFA approved footballs for all the 20 participating clubs.
Making the presentation in a brief ceremony, Farouk Yarma, the proprietor of FC Yarmalight Gombe, said “Support for grassroots and amateur football must transcend mere rhetorics, demanding actionable commitment that genuinely nurtures the sport from its foundational levels.

“My dedication to giving back to society through sports is unwavering. This initiative is not merely a one-time effort; it reflects my deep-seated passion for helping the less privileged realize their dreams”, Yarma added
Represented by Habu Ya’u, team manager of FC Yarmalight, Malam Farouk underscored the spirit of community and sportsmanship as he presented the footballs to the participating clubs.

“This is to ensure that all the clubs are well-equipped for the competitive challenges ahead”, Habu Ya’u emphasized.
Malam Hashim Ibrahim, the tournament coordinator and Chairman of the State League One Forum, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Yarma’s generous contributions.

He recognized Yarma as a steadfast supporter of grassroots football for over two decades and urged other philanthropists and key stakeholders in Gombe State to join in fostering the tournament’s success.
The amateur football competition had kicked off on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Pantami Stadium. So far, it has been an exhilarating start to the season and has presented an opportunity for local talent to shine on the field.
