Bauchi State Government – Oct. 07, 2025

The Bauchi State Executive Council has approved six months’ maternity leave and workplace crèches for nursing mothers in the state’s civil service.

Announcing the decision after the council meeting on Monday, the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Mohammed Sani Umar, said the leave period was extended from four to six months and will soon be backed by legislation at the State House of Assembly.

He added that on resumption, nursing mothers would also enjoy flexible working hours, while the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has been directed to ensure the establishment of functional crèches and other support facilities in workplaces.

The development follows sustained advocacy by UNICEF Bauchi Field Office and civil society groups for family-friendly reforms in the state workforce.
