Birnin Gwari peace Accord – Oct. 12, 2025
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, His Royal Highness, Mallam Zubair Jibril, OFR (Mai-Gwari II), has described the peace accord in Birnin Gwari as a major success story for both Kaduna State and Nigeria.
Speaking on the theme, “Renewed Hope, Renewed Peace: Lessons from Birnin Gwari for a Stronger Nigeria,” the Emir recounted how the once-troubled area overcame nearly two decades of insecurity to regain peace and stability.
He recalled the difficult years when banditry and kidnappings forced residents to abandon their homes, farms, and markets.
“There was a time when the name Birnin Gwari struck fear into every heart, when roads were deserted, markets silent, and families fled their ancestral homes in anguish,” he said.
The monarch noted that the turning point came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Birnin Gwari in December 2022 and the subsequent peace accord initiated by the Federal and Kaduna State Governments.
According to him, the intervention has brought a drastic reduction in banditry and kidnappings, while roads, markets, and farmlands have reopened.
“The long night of Birnin Gwari has ended, and the dawn we prayed for has come,” he added.
The Emir attributed the progress to strong leadership, divine intervention, and the collective efforts of government, security agencies, and residents. He said the process was guided by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
He praised President Tinubu for his courage and empathy, and commended Governor Uba Sani for his continued support and commitment to peace building and development in the area.
The monarch called for sustained collaboration between the Federal and State Governments, development partners, and the private sector to consolidate peace and drive economic growth in Birnin Gwari.
He listed key priorities including the rehabilitation of major roads, establishment of a tertiary institution, revitalisation of agriculture, and investment in agro-processing, mining, and renewable energy.
The Emir also appealed for the upgrade of the Jibril Mai Gwari I Memorial Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, describing the facility as crucial to healthcare delivery in Birnin Gwari and neighbouring communities.
Beyond his emirate, the royal father said Birnin Gwari’s story offers important lessons for Nigeria’s quest for peace and development.
“No community is too broken to be restored, and no challenge is beyond redemption,” he stated. “With justice, good leadership, and people-centred development, every part of Nigeria can thrive.”
The Emir expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Governor Uba Sani, security agencies, and community leaders for their support in restoring peace.

He also commended the resilience of his people, urging them to remain united and steadfast.
