Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has toured the Mambilla Plateau in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, describing the area as richly endowed with vast agricultural and mineral potential.
The tour was led by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Chief Barr. G. T. Kataps (Ngwii Mambilla), with the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar, hosting the delegation. Dogara was taken round strategic locations, including the Bang–Tamnya border area linking Nigeria and Cameroon.
Speaking during the visit, Dogara expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by the people of the Mambilla Plateau. He praised the scenic beauty of the area and commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his leadership, particularly in addressing security challenges, which he said has ensured peace and stability across Taraba State.
The former Speaker said the tour had given him a better understanding of the Plateau’s development needs, noting that Sardauna Local Government possesses favourable weather conditions and fertile land capable of supporting large-scale agricultural production that could feed the nation if properly harnessed.
He also lauded the peaceful coexistence among the various communities on the Plateau, describing it as a strong foundation for sustainable development.
Responding on behalf of the host community, the Acting Mbondua of Mbamnga, Alhaji Abubakar Sale Ndula, said the people of Mbamnga Chiefdom and the entire Mambilla Plateau were honoured by Dogara’s visit. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang–Lip Road project, describing it as a critical infrastructure for the area.
Earlier, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar, said it was an honour to host a national figure of Dogara’s stature, noting that his public service career has positively impacted many Nigerians.
The tour climaxed with the presentation of the Kam-Kam, a traditional bag symbolising honour and hospitality, to Rt. Hon. Dogara and his wife. Among dignitaries present were Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, Hon. Nelson C. Len, and Hon. Gideon Nonso Mbaso, Taraba State Commissioner for Digital Economy and Innovation.
