Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate employment of 81 best graduating students of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Maiduguri, as lecturers, with effect from January 1, 2026.
The approval was announced at the maiden combined convocation ceremony of the university, which was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other high-profile dignitaries from across the country.
Governor Zulum, who is also the Visitor to the university, described the gesture as a deliberate investment in human capital development and the long-term growth of the institution.
“I want to inform this distinguished gathering that I have approved the recruitment of all the 81 best graduating students from the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 academic sessions as lecturers of this university,” the governor said.
He added that beyond their automatic employment, the beneficiaries would be sponsored to pursue postgraduate programmes within and outside Nigeria to enhance their academic and research capacities.
The convocation ceremony also featured a donation from the Office of the Vice President, which included two electric buses to support transportation within the university.
Among dignitaries present at the event were Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, as well as a representative of the Governor of Kebbi State.
Traditional rulers and prominent personalities, including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, and renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, attended the ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor of KIU, Professor Babagana Gutti, expressed gratitude to the federal and state governments and other stakeholders for their support towards the growth of the university.
