The President of the United Nigerian Youths Congress (UNYC), Naseer Chamber, has called for a renewed focus on national interest, urging Nigerians to put the country first in all endeavours. His remarks came during the 2025 National Youth Conference held in Abuja, themed “Nigeria First: Leadership, Solution for National Growth.”
Chamber explained that the conference theme was deliberately chosen to promote patriotism and encourage sacrifices for the nation’s development. “Any country that develops or succeeds places its country first; there is no alternative to that,” he said.
He observed that while politicians and citizens often fall short of this ideal, the turnout at the conference reflected Nigerians’ deep love for their country. “Look at the hall today. Nigerians from all over the country are here, showing their patriotism,” Chamber noted.
According to the UNYC President, the organisation is committed to building youth capacity, unifying the country, and supporting reforms in the military, police, and broader security architecture. He emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity is not a weakness but its greatest strength.
“Fellow Nigerian youths, history is calling us. The future is calling us. Our country is calling us. Let us answer with courage and unity. With this coalition, we are not just preparing for the future; we are creating it,” he said, highlighting UNYC’s determination to reshape the nation’s narrative.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Suleiman Mande, UNYC Director of Programmes, described the event as a form of national reparation. He said the gathering brought together stakeholders to discuss serious national issues and provide actionable solutions, urging policymakers to implement some of the recommendations.
Mande expressed confidence that Nigeria could overcome current challenges if citizens embraced a mindset of dedication and commitment. “All developed countries grew through the efforts of their own people. As Nigerians, we can do the same. It requires determination, commitment, and a patriotic attitude,” he said, calling on citizens to put the nation above tribalism, personal interest, and political differences.
