Ilorin — The Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Movement Church, Ilorin District Headquarters, on Sunday ushered in the 2026 spiritual year with a special praise service, calling on government at all levels to urgently address insecurity and the rising cost of living in the country.
The programme, tagged “Beginning the Year With Praise” with the theme “Praising My Redeemer,” was held at the church auditorium and attracted a large turnout of worshippers and guests who gathered to thank God for preservation amid Nigeria’s numerous challenges and to seek divine guidance for the new year.
Speaking with journalists after the service, the District Pastor, Moses Ademola Popoola, described the event as spiritually uplifting, noting that it has remained a consistent feature of the church’s calendar for over a decade, with testimonies of positive impact on the lives of members.
Pastor Popoola explained that the theme was chosen to remind Christians of the essence of Christ’s sacrifice, stressing that Jesus came to save humanity from sin, deliver believers from darkness and replace curses with blessings, which, he said, remained sufficient reason for thanksgiving and praise.
He added that despite the hardship Nigerians faced in the past year, the nation still had cause to be grateful. According to him, although the country went through a very difficult period marked by multiple challenges, divine intervention prevented total collapse.
The cleric urged Christians not to lose hope, noting that God remains active in the affairs of men. He said believers should remain steadfast, expressing confidence that present difficulties would give way to joy and restoration.
On governance, Pastor Popoola called on government to take urgent steps to tackle insecurity, warning that no meaningful development could take place without adequate security. He advocated the adoption of state and community policing, as well as increased recruitment and deployment of security personnel to address ungoverned spaces.
He also decried the rising cost of living and weak sanctions against corruption, calling for effective price control measures, greater investment in infrastructure, education and social services, and a reduction in the high cost of elections, which he said often fuels unhealthy political practices.
