The Gombe State Government has donated operational vehicles to registered hunters and vigilante groups across the state as part of renewed efforts to strengthen community-based security and combat crime.
The vehicles were presented at a brief ceremony in Gombe, where government officials said the gesture was aimed at enhancing the capacity of local security outfits to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
According to the state government, hunters and vigilante groups play a vital role in grassroots intelligence gathering, surveillance and early response to security threats, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
Officials noted that the lack of logistics had continued to hinder the effectiveness of the groups, stressing that improved mobility would significantly boost patrols and response time to distress situations.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that the donation aligns with its broader security strategy focused on collaboration, prevention and rapid intervention.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, leaders of the hunters and vigilante associations expressed gratitude to the state government, describing the donation as timely and reassuring.
They pledged to deploy the vehicles strictly for security operations and to continue working in synergy with the police, the military and other security agencies in the state.
The beneficiaries were also urged to operate within the law, maintain professionalism and respect the rights of citizens while discharging their duties.
