A former Minister of Transport and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is becoming uneasy over the growing unity of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umar, who represented Gombe Central Senatorial District in the Senate, declared that the ADC is fully prepared to capture power from the APC in Gombe State and at the national level.
He spoke shortly after a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Gombe, where he expressed confidence in the party’s growing strength and electoral prospects.
According to him, it is natural for a ruling party to be jittery when faced with a united opposition, stressing that the ADC currently stands as the most formidable opposition party due to its cohesion in Gombe State and across the country.
The former senator said the party in the state is united under the leadership of its Chairman, Malam Auwal Barde, and Secretary, Malam Danladi Ya’u, while the Transition Committee is chaired by Dr. John Lazarus Yoriyo, a former Deputy Governor of the state, with Dr. Gana as Secretary.
He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was convened to reaffirm party unity, noting that unity remains the foundation of political strength and electoral success as the country moves towards another election cycle.
“With reconciliation among ourselves, we are now stronger and ready to face the coming elections,” Umar said, expressing optimism that the party would form the next government in Gombe State and at the national level.
He further disclosed that the ADC would soon commence a nationwide membership drive, including the registration of new members and the revalidation of existing ones, ahead of congresses scheduled for February and March.
Also speaking, the State Secretary of the party, Malam Danladi Ya’u, said all internal differences had been resolved, assuring that ADC has no factions in Gombe State and urging residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them participate effectively in the democratic process.
